ICS Skills, the skills and certification division of the Irish Computer Society, will be running a series of free seminars across Ireland this September. The seminars will utilise SKILLSCERT, an IT skills management programme that assesses the job roles and skills of an organisation’s IT professionals. SKILLSCERT is a simple and straightforward process that can provide a comprehensive audit of an entire IT department’s skills and abilities.

R&D Vouchers to Assist Small Companies
Minister of Enterprise, Trade & Employment, Micheál Martin, has presented Ireland’s first Innovation Voucher to Applied Thermal Imagery Ltd. Of Cork. As part of this scheme, vouchers worth €5,000 are being presented to 194 small businesses nationwide in order to help them become more innovative, which is “essential in developing Ireland’s knowledge economy,” according to the Minister. The vouchers can be exchanged for advice and expertise from any one of the 21 participating knowledge providers, drawn mainly from Ireland’s third-level institutions.

Pharmaceutical Training Facility Opens in Cork
A new state-of-the-art bio pharmaceutical/pharmaceutical training facility has opened in Carrigaline, Co Cork. The facility has been developed by FÁS in response to the training needs of this growing industry and will help in dealing with areas of skills shortages such as downstream processing. Trainees will have the opportunity to develop and enhance their hands-on diagnostic skills and receive training in complex technologies. The facility consists of a process training area, a clean room, three classrooms and related services. FÁS have invested €3.5 million to date.
